TikTok has long since ceased to be just for young people! With millions of active users worldwide and an algorithm that can make content go viral, it is a powerful platform for businesses. After the success of our first meet-up in November, in which Sam discussed ‘10 Digital To Do's’, our second meet-up took place last Thursday (27 February 2025). This time, Femke took everyone into the world of TikTok and showed how you can use this platform smartly as a business.
Couldn't be there? In this blog post, we take you through the main findings of the meet-up.

TikTok is more than just dances
Anyone who still sees TikTok as an app full of dances and funny videos is missing the real power of the platform. Still doubting whether TikTok is the right platform for your business? Here are some reasons why TikTok is definitely worth trying out:
Potentially viral: Its unique algorithm ensures that even small accounts can go viral, something businesses can make smart use of.
Low production cost: TikTok content does not have to be polished or expensive. Often ‘authentic and spontaneous’ works better than professionally produced videos.
Reusable content: Videos you post on TikTok can easily be shared on other platforms such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

Using TikTok as a business
UGC and influencer marketing
One of the most powerful strategies on TikTok is leveraging user-generated content (UGC). This involves users creating their own content showcasing your product or service. This increases credibility and ensures organic spread of your brand.
In addition, influencer marketing on TikTok is very effective. By working with TikTok creators who have a strong connection with their followers, you can spread your message in an authentic and impactful way. Choose influencers who align with your brand values and target audience to create a natural connection.

Content inspiration
Success on TikTok depends on how creative and relevant your content is. Here are some formats that work well:
Respond to trends: Use popular sounds and participate in trends/challenges to hitch a ride on what is currently trending on the platform.
Day vlogs: Take your followers behind the scenes of your business. Show how your products are made or show a day in the life.
Entertainment and humour: TikTok is a platform where humour and entertainment score well. Don't be afraid not to take yourself too seriously and respond to comical situations within your industry.
Educational content: Share valuable tips and insights about your field.
Advertising on TikTok: opportunities and costs
Besides organic content, advertising opportunities on TikTok were also discussed. Because while the platform offers businesses a huge opportunity to go viral for free, a well-planned ad campaign can speed up that process.
We discussed two ways to advertise:
Boosted posts, where you promote an existing video for greater reach.
TikTok Ads Manager, which lets you create and refine ads based on target audience and budget.
The cost? Count on about €2-4 per 1,000 views, with a minimum ad budget of €50.
