We recently welcomed a new intern to Websters. Symen Nelissen will be joining our team for the coming period and is in his sixth year of Crossmedia at Level X Hasselt. With his fresh perspective and enthusiasm, Symen is looking forward to developing new skills and working on a variety of projects. We are curious to see what he will bring to the table and look forward to getting to know him better!
Who are you?
"Hello, everyone! I'm Symen, a sixth-year Crossmedia student at Level X Hasselt, and recently started an internship at Websters. In my spare time, I play guitar and basketball or go to football games with friends. I love films and series with long-winded stories and I love to analyse them in detail. Most of all, I love being with my family, where I enjoy causing mischief with my cousins.”
How are things at Websters?
"When I arrived here on Monday morning (after getting lost on my way here maybe twice), I was welcomed with open arms. I was immediately given a tour, followed by a pleasant chat (since I was still a little early)."
How I found my direction:
"From primary school to the third year of secondary school, I attended Katholiek Onderwijs Landen, where I studied Modern Languages & Sciences. I did well, but it wasn't what my heart desired. I always had a strong interest in drawing and art. Then I heard about the “Design and Graphic Techniques” programme, which was in Hasselt, not exactly next door. Still, I took a leap of faith and I haven't regretted it for a second. After my fourth year of secondary school, I switched to the “Crossmedia” programme, in which I am now completing my final year with just as much enthusiasm. "
Why Crossmedia?
“My passion for art started at an early age. For as long as I can remember, I asked my father to bring me more pencils and there were new drawings on the fridge almost every week. Crossmedia felt like the right direction for me to apply that creativity in the real world. Although interests can change, of course, and I'm not yet sure if this is what I'll do later in life, it remains something I will always enjoy coming back to.
Free time:
"When I was six years old, I tried basketball. I loved it, and the basketball court quickly became my second home. I always did my best, and the results followed. Unfortunately, at the age of twelve, after many injuries and ultimately a serious operation, I had to give up that dream. Still, I couldn't let it go. After a long rehabilitation, I started again at the age of seventeen, and the dream is alive again. In addition, I have been playing the guitar for several months, something I enjoy immensely and definitely see myself continuing to do in the future."
Future plans:
‘As I said, my future is still a mystery. What I want to do next year is also still a big question mark. There are many options, which only makes the choice more difficult. At the moment, I'm torn between graphic design, film, becoming a teacher or even a job with the police. Who knows what the future holds? Unfortunately, I don't yet 😅.’
